Charity is what a servant gives to the poor and needy, whether in kind or in cash, willingly, in order to draw closer to God Almighty. Charity is one of the deeds encouraged by the Islamic religion and commanded by the Lord of His servants. Because of its many benefits, God Almighty said, commanding His Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace: (Say to My servants who have believed to establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and openly, before the day comes when there will be no sale.)

The virtue of giving charity for the sake of God

God – Glory be to Him – explained in His Holy Book the benefits and importance of charity. From that is His saying – the Almighty -: “And whatever thing you spend, He will replace it with it, and He is the Best of Providers.” The Prophet – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – also referred to the virtue of charity in several prophetic hadiths, and the following is an explanation of the virtue of charity for the sake of God:

It extinguishes the wrath of God "Glory be to Him"

It protects its owner from harm. He, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: (Charity in secret extinguishes the wrath of the Lord).

It erases the sins of the servant and protects him from Hell

In this regard, he – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – states: (Whoever of you is able to protect himself from the Fire, even with half a date, should do so.)

The servant will be protected by his charity on the Day of Resurrection

This is indicated by several hadiths. It states that charity saves its giver in the land of the Mahshar from the difficult situation and the approaching sun on that day. In this regard, he said – may God bless him and grant him peace -: (Every person is in the shadow of his charity, until he separates people).

A reason to treat physical and heart diseases

It also wards off different types of affliction, and it is Sunnah for the afflicted person to pay charity on his own behalf, or for someone else to pay it on his behalf with the intention of recovery. He – may God bless him and grant him peace – said: (Heal your sick with charity).

The Angel calls every day for charity, other than the stingy grasper

In this regard, he – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – said: (There is no day on which the servants wake up except two angels descend, and one of them says: O God, give a successor to the spender, and the other says: O God, give the one who takes back damage.)

God Almighty blesses the servant with his wealth, develops it, and increases it

The reward for the charitable person will be doubled. God Almighty says: (Indeed, the men and women who give charity and lend to God a good loan will be multiplied for them, and they will have a generous reward). The amount of a date and a morsel is the same as one of you rears his foal – Or separate it – until it is like Uhud);[13] In this hadith, charity is a trade with God Almighty, in which there is always profit without loss.
